I had intended to post these pics of Alison McDonald‘s Flow from Sculpture by the Sea weeks ago, but somehow got sidetracked… But as they say, better late than never… and besides, doesn’t plastic last a long time…?
I’m referring to the curtain of all-man made plastic bottle caps draped over Bondi’s all-natural rockwall, which did a good job of focusing my mind on the matter of the environment and my relationship with it. It was somewhat disturbing to consider just how many bottle caps were strung up for this piece alone, what of all the other plastic we’ve produced and discarded around us?
That tiny freak-out aside, when viewed front-on and from a bit of a distance, I found the effect was reminiscent of the dot paintings of our indigenous artists, and somewhat mesmerising as a result.
A memorable and thought-provoking artwork, don’t you think?
